Captain Abhimanyu Singh- Politician BJP Party


Captain Abhimanyu Singh (a.k.a. Abhimanyu Singh Sindhu) is a dynamic leader from Haryana. He is well known for his deep understanding of the agrarian economy of Northern India and real-life issues at a basic level. An agrarian economy is rural rather than urban-based. He is a politician, decorated Indian-army soldier, award-winning newspaper editor, entrepreneur, educationist, and philanthropist. 

His importance in Haryana politics increased exponentially when, in 2014, Amit Shah hinted at Captain Abhimanyu as his party’s choice for the post of Haryana Chief Minister.

Early Life

  • Abhimanyu Singh Sindhu was born on December 18, 1967 to a Hindu Jat family in Hisar district’s Khanda Kheri village.
  • He is the son of Ch. Mitter Sen Sindhu and Parmeshwari Devi.
  • He lives in a joint family having 3 sisters and 6 brothers.
  • He did his schooling as well as his college education from Rohtak.


  • Captain Abhimanyu Singh is a well-educated person who has several degrees to his credit including Bachelor of Commerce (1986), LLB (2005), and postgraduate diploma in Mass Communication (2007). 
  • He has also completed a 3-year Owner’s/ President Management Program from Harvard Business School. (2013-2016).

Professional Career

  • His professional career is spread over 27 years. During these years, he had explored the field of education, business, defense services, journalism, sports administration, social activism, and finally political activism.
  • He gave 6 years of his life to the Indian Army (1987-1993).
  • He, then, qualified Civil Service Examination in the year 1994 but instead, he chose to pursue social work and a philanthropist.
  • He also had a successful business career as he served as an executive director at Sindhu Trade Links Limited.
  • But he rejected it to become a full-time BJP worker in 2003.
  • He had also been the founding proprietor and Editor-in-chief of the Hindi daily Newspaper Hari Bhoomi.

Married Life

  • He is married to Dr. Ekta.
  • And this beautiful couple is blessed with 2 sons and 1 daughter.

Political Career

  • In his political circle, he is known among those few progressive leaders who believe in a positive outlook.
  • During the 16 years of his political career, he has tried to get love from urban as well as rural masses.
  • In 1997, he joined the senior BJP leader L.K. Advani’s Swaran Jayanti Rath Yatra and gathered the crowd for the cause.
  • In 1998, during Lok Sabha Election, he was the election agent and co-ordinator of Swami Indravesh who was the BJP candidate from Rohtak.
  • In 1999, he was an election agent and co-ordinator of Sahib Singh Verma who was the former CM of Delhi and successfully managed the entire election campaign of the outer Delhi constituency. 
  • His political career got a shot in the year 2004 when BJP selected him to contest against the president of Haryana Pardesh Congress committee, Bhupinder Singh Hooda from Rohtak parliamentary constituency.
  • He not only secured 1,73,800 votes but also came second.
  • The following year, in 2005, Bhupinder Singh Hooda became CM of Haryana and Rohtak Lok Sabha seat became vacant. 
  • Captain Abhimanyu Singh again became BJP’s candidate in by-poll election and this time too, he gave a good fight to Congress’s Deependar Singh Hooda, son of the CM. 
  • In 2005, he became BJP’s general secretary and also contested the Assembly election from Narnaund but lost.
  • Some of the innovative campaigns launched by Abhimanyu include Jhajjar Vijay Sankalp rally, Save Democracy rally, Bijli Khoj rally, Ram Setu movement, Vijay Sankalp yatra, Jal Adhikar rally, and Deenbandhu Prerna rally. It is these rallies during 2007-2009 that gave him an identity at the national level.
  • In 2009, he contested both Assembly (Narnaund) and Parliamentary (Rohtak) seats but came second. 
  • He also managed important election duties in Punjab and UP in 2012.
  • He became the National spokesperson of BJP in 2013.
  • In 2014, he won the Narnaund seat in the legislative assembly of Haryana by a margin of 5761 votes. He was then sworn in as a cabinet minister.
  • In 2017, he was also made in-charge of BJP’s part affairs for the state of Punjab.
  • On 26 December 2018, he was again reappointed as BJP in-charge of Punjab and Haryana.



He won the Narnaund seat in legislative assembly of Haryana.


He was appointed as BJP national spokesperson of and co-incharge of Uttar Pardesh by Rajnath Singh ahead of Indian general election, 2014.


He was the co-incharge of BJP Punjab.


He was appointed as General Secretary of Haryana BJP unit.


He founded Hari Bhoomi, Hindi daily news-paper published from Haryana, Chhattisgarh, M.P., Delhi and Orisa. Later, became editor-in-chief.


He worked as founder-owner, director and chairman of several companies. Two prominent ones are Sindhu Tradelinks Pvt. Ltd. and Indus Portfolio Pvt. Ltd.


He was selected for Indian Civil Services but he chose not to join. He opted for social services along with his own business.


He joined the Indian Army as a Second Lieutenant to serve in 7 Mechanised Infantry Regiment . He completed his army’s 5 year short service commission in 1993.


  • He was given independent charge of following 13 government of Haryana Departments as a cabinet minister.
  • He had the highest no. of ministries including the Department of Economic and statistical analysis, Haryana state legal services authority, the Department of revenue and disaster management, the Department of Excise and Taxation,  the Department of Land records and consolidation, the Department of Rehabilitation, and the Department of institutional finance and credit control, etc.


  • He was awarded the Special services medal in 1989. 
  • In 2002, he received the Babu Bal Mukund Gupta Award from the Haryana Sahitya Academy for his work in journalism.


  • He has inherited a family educational organization called as Sindhu Education foundation.
  • In December 2017, he organized the mass wedding of 51 poor girls in the premises of Param Mitra Kanya Vidya Niketan Senior Secondary School of Khanda Kheri in Hisar.
  • He sponsored this event by donating 3 year’s salary that he had earned in the capacity of minister in Haryana govt.
